After many months of planning my first pregnancy with my hubby and with much agonizing anticipation of becoming a mother for the first time! I never realized the early changes that my body would go through before giving birth. First, I noticed that I missed my period. I thought that I missed period because of the amount of stress that I put myself under prior to planning to get pregnant. I worked as a long-term middle school substitute teacher in both Math and Science. Mind you, Science is one of my favorite subjects, but Math not so much, so managing a classroom and teaching with early signs of pregnancy became a challenge. Most women have a 28 day menstrual cycle, so I had to consider taking the test after I missed my period for more than a month. I had to call on my best friend and seasoned mother to go along with me to my favorite drugstore to buy my first at home pregnancy test. My nervousness, and going into the great unknown world of motherhood really freaked me out! I really appreciate my best friend’s patience and support with being there for me during this life-changing time in my life.
Secondly, my breasts began to hurt and feel a little tender to the touch. I felt very sensitive around the breast area during this time. Thirdly, I developed cramps that were very unfamiliar, the type of cramping did not compare to period cramps at all.
The cramping felt deeper and more intense than regular period cramps. I felt massive discomfort, some days not being able to sleep through the night, and remained a bit painful during the day. I felt that my period was just around the corner, but it never arrived on schedule.
When I began noticing these changes, I knew that it was time to take a home pregnancy test. Fourthly, which I believe this should have been the first sign, I felt very dizzy in the very beginning of both of my pregnancies, the first and second pregnancy. This was the moment where I became very thankful, that I had the wisdom to know and be one hundred percent aware of hormonal changes in my body.
I felt severely dizzy and super nauseous, with a strong aversion to certain foods, and everything smelled gross and horrible! Last but not least, I had to pay attention to my menstrual flow, if it had been delayed, skipped because of stress or if I was still recovering from not using birth control. But all the other first signs sealed the deal that I required a home pregnancy test, and once I took my final home pregnancy test, and knowing that I tested positive! I contacted my doctor to confirm my pregnancy results.
