Can you believe Fall is almost here? (gasp) Back to school, Back to youth sports, Back to Life and I am feeling excited about the upcoming basketball season. This is the season for the Back to school rush of school supply shopping, clothing shopping, and sports registration for families.
Another basketball season means another round of try outs, getting in shape, and preparing the family schedule to include basketball practice and games on the weekend. It’s usually obvious the amount of time and effort that it will take to have a successful season for not only your child but the entire family.
As a busy mom on the go it is very important to prepare my child early for the upcoming basketball season. Being in good shape with a healthy team spirit is critical for performance on the basketball court. The upcoming season should encourage teamwork, team building, learning new skills, focus, discipline, and overall having a blast on the court!
The important thing to make sure you make the cut before basketball try-outs is to get a proper physical prior to the basketball season. Children can start learning the basics of basketball at a very young age. Children can learn to shoot, pass, throw, follow directions, and pass the ball.
Children 7-8 years of age can start learning the rules of the game, and the basics of dribbling the ball. The ability for the child to learn and follow basketball drills, working on defensive moves, is a healthy benefit to their building of basketball knowledge for the future. Parents should be actively involved at practices and games during the season.
