This is such an God-given season of ground-breaking movies! I am still reeling over everything that is Black Panther, and before my eyes appears the epic adventure of “A Wrinkle in Time.” The highly-anticipated movie A Wrinkle in Time is based on the 1962 best selling novel. I have to admit, full transparency, that I have not had the desire to go to the movies in many years. I really prefer cuddling up with a book, or watching some documentaries on the Discovery channel.
Listen, the movies that were being presented on the big screen did not move my spirit in any way, so the thought of leaving the comforts of my home really never crossed my mind, except for the little kingdom to experience movies in a theater. So this brings so much joy to my heart to have the arrival of such amazing films this year.
And Girl, I have been a huge fan of books, movies, and art my entire life. I think that my first film that I ever watched on the big screen had to be E.T. followed by Purple Rain, when my parents took the entire family to the drive-in movie theatre. I believe that some movies take you to places that captivate your mind, body, spirit, and soul.
The truth of the matter is, when you are watching a good movie nothing more magical can really happen in life. Sometimes, you are trapped in time from the beginning of the movie until the end! The way that I know that a movie is really mesmerizing, is when I am left in the movie theater reading the credits, following the soundtrack, holding on to dear life to what is left of my popcorn, and in total “awe” from what I just witnessed on the screen.
I am beyond excited for “A Wrinkle In Time,” to premier March 9, 2018. The movie alone has a female powerhouse cast with the wise, Mother Oprah Winfrey, (Mrs. Which) Reese Witherspoon, (Mrs. Whatsit) Mindy Kaling, (Mrs. Who) and break-out star Storm Reid as Meg. I am super excited for the Wrinkle in Time Soundtrack. One of my favorite artist of all time Sade has a breath-taking new song “Flower in the universe,” that is simply beautiful to hear Sade return with something new for 2018. I think that this movie is flowing with women’s empowerment, and so much creativity that I can’t even stand it!
Not to mention the multi-talented, and multi-faceted, award-winning director Ava DuVernay. Ava DuVernay is known for such masterful direction in “Selma,” and “Queen Sugar,” that can be found on the Oprah Network. DuVernay mentions that that this film has a diverse crew, which includes many women and people of color. The overall vision of the film is to create something emotionally resonant and visually stunning with a fantastic team of artists.
