|Third Trimester- Day before labor and delivery|
I have to admit that when I discovered that I was pregnant with my son in 2008, the last thing on my mind was being fashionable or wearing the latest fashions. The first thought that came into my mind was a feeling of joy, and thankfulness of becoming a mother for the first time. Shortly after all of my feelings transformed into I want to be somewhat fashionable during my pregnancy. I have always been a person to have my own natural look. I never really follow any trends unless it is handbags or shoes. However, I love to mix and match high end fashion with low end or thrift store bargains for my style. The challenge of being pregnant is that I did not want to appear pregnant if that makes sense? I did not want to have the typical maternity look, but to continue to have my own style. I wanted to move a little “fashion forward” in my own unique way. The beauty of being pregnant with my first born son is that I carried him over the summer. I did not have the pressure of wearing fall shoes i.e. heels, boots, booties, ankle boots, and heavy coats. I had the luxury of wearing flip flops, sandals, Capri’s, skirts, and dresses until delivery day.
My favorite stores to shop for Maternity wear were Old Navy, Ross, and Motherhood Maternity. I loved to shop at Old Navy for flip flops and maternity shirts. I decided to have matching flip flops for each maternity shirt that I wore every day. I had so much fun wearing multi colored flip flops and shirts. The bright colors helped with my mood during pregnancy too. Old Navy had the best maternity dresses, which ranged in a variety of colors and were very comfortable during my second and third trimesters. Motherhood Maternity had blouse and short sets that filled my heart with joy. I could buy a couple of sets that were sold together during each trimester. The important factors were price, comfort, look/style, flexibility, and quality of the clothing items. My third trimester is when I gained the most weight, and I had to buy sizes that were a little bigger from first and second trimester, also this became the most uncomfortable time in my pregnancy.
The challenge of fashion
Fashion is challenge when you are bringing life into this world. I really wanted to look fashionable everyday, but some days I just wanted to wear pajamas the whole day and relax on the couch and eat hamburgers and french fries. The days that I really did not feel that fashionable were the days that I would daydream about different outfits that I would wear the following day. I would stare at all of my flip flops and window shop in my closet. The challenge of feeling nauseous, fatigued, and overwhelmed with hormones that are wildly moving throughout your body, being cute is the last thing on my mind. I battled these pregnancy feelings with the knowledge that I had style options. At the end of the day a nice bangle, earrings,, and handbag, and a new pair of glasses made all the difference in the world.
I loved to take time every few weeks to have a wonderful pedicure. I really enjoyed pedicures when I could not paint my toes myself in my second and third trimester. My stomach made it difficult to bend down and see my feet. In addition going to get a pedicure helped with any anxiety that I had about labor and delivery. I had a few hours out of my day to pamper myself and have beautiful feet. I continued after the birth of my son to have a professional pedicure at least once a month. My favorite nail colors are from OPI, basic black, Sally Hansen magnetic nail color, and Zoya (Tart) to name a few of my favorite brands and colors.
To this day lip gloss is a staple product for fashion. I love to have a great lip gloss with any outfit. My favorite lip gloss brands are from MAC, Mary Kay (Downtown Brown), Baby Lips, and Balance Me. Lip gloss ads the final touch to any outfit maternity or otherwise in any season.

The best accessory is God Given, the one of carrying a beautiful life inside of me. I felt so blessed being able to carry my son for nine months. The beauty of motherhood and not really worrying about my weight, working out, only walking and staying healthy during my pregnancy. I feel that motherhood is the most beautiful time in a woman’s life. The ability to carry a child is an enormous blessing that is life changing and changed my heart to realize that purpose is within you. I found the purpose within me to become the best mother that I could be by staying in prayer and meditation during my pregnancy.
