1 How was Heal a Woman Heal a Nation created? What is the mission statement of Heal a Woman Heal a Nation?
Founded in 2004, what started as a pamper party turned into a day of empowerment and prestige. As a community service initiative
Mothyna James, Miss Morgan State University 2003- 2004, sought to provide a day of pampering for women. However, in an effort to serve the whole woman, workshops, resource material and a keynote address were added to the relaxation activities. Thus, April 2004 marked the birth of The Heal a Woman, Heal a Nation (HWHN) conference held at sponsored by Vivian Ryan and the Office of Student Activities. In 2007 we underwent a slight name change to clarify our purpose and meaning. Now, The Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation conference has grown to impact women across the nation. In order to further its mission the Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation Conference has grown to Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc. Our mission is to promote life-long learning and holistic wellness for women and girls. Morgan State University
2 How would you encourage women to start their own business or non -profit?
SM Just do it! Here are some guidelines, first define why you want to serve. The reason will help keep you on task during difficult times. Then determine who, when and how. If you feel intimidated by the process find someone that knows the process in your state to assist you. Smart people seek help. Effective people seek help sooner, quicker, faster. Successful people persist.
How do you step into your greatness?
SM Accept that you’re great. There is a reason why you exist in the world at a time like this. Accept that you were born great now it’s time to accept and manifest your greatness. Align your mind with your God (by whatever name you prefer), draw the line from God to your Gifts allow those two to inform your Goals and before you know it your living life in 4G and you will be running in your Greatness.
4 How do you promote holistic wellness for women and families?
SM We start with you. Women must remember to secure their mask first then you can care for others. As my coach says you want to feed from your overflow.
5 How do you define success and how do you measure up to your definition?
SM I define success for Mothyna as having the options to live life of my choosing. I choose God first and measure my alignment to my divine calling. You have to choose your definition of success and let’s be honest success in our 20’s might not look the same as success in our 40’s and that’s ok.
6 Who has inspired you in your life and why?
SM Way too many to count. So the short version, people who keep going no matter what. Individuals who desire to pay it forward and don’t need accolades to do so. I’m inspired by those living their purpose. And of course I can’t forget my mama and the many women in my family legacy.
7 What is the single most important takeaway from our discussion?
SM Do you. Be you. Love you. As my girl, Dee C. Marshall would say. You get to define your life.
8 Where do you see Heal a Woman Heal a Nation in five years?
SM I see thousands of women across the global sharing, living, loving and serving others. Other than that anything can happen.
