MW As you know we only have 24 hours and 7 days in a week. What is the key to you managing your time as a mother, wife, blogger, public speaker, and entrepreneur?
CS Everyone likes to use the word “balance” and that word actually makes me cringe. I prefer to use the term “juggle”. When you have to wear so many hats, you have to master the art of juggling. But even moreso, you have to learn and master the art of saying no to people and things that suck up your time and energy.
MW When did you create MomsNCharge? What has been the most surprising part of your journey since the time that MomsNCharge launched?
CS I created MNC in 2012 as a need I had for myself to connect with other moms and take charge of my own life. The most surprising part of my journey since launching MNC is the fact that I am now a speaker and trainer. I actually enjoy speaking even though I’m still an introvert. But I’ve come a long way considering I used to be deathly afraid of speaking in public.
MW Why did you name your business Purpose Driven Media LLC?
CS Everything I do — whether it’s through my work with MNC, or my book, Whose Shoes Are You Wearing? —- revolves around the importance of being purposeful. I’m really big on doing things with purpose, and helping others to embrace their God-given journey. When I started to expand the services I delivered as a result of MNC, I wanted that arm of my business to have meaning and still be connected to everything I’ve ever done. I’m always teaching people that even when it comes to social media, everything you post, like, tweet and share should have a purpose. I love being able to help entrepreneurs to be purposeful and profitable in their businesses through the use of blogging and social media.
MW What is your definition of purpose? Do you feel that you are walking in your purpose today?
CS My definition of purpose is doing what you’re called to do with ease and grace. Your purpose shouldn’t stress you out or overwhelm you more than it brings you joy. I think there are levels to walking in your purpose, and I’m looking forward to my levels continuing to evolve.
MW What advice would you give to a busy mom who would like to start her own blog or business?
CS I think Nike has always said it best: Just do it. One of my major motivations for me when I started out, is that I found myself telling my son (who was 4 at the time) that he can be and do anything he wanted to do. But yet, I knew deep down I wasn’t living that truth for myself. I wanted to be the example for my children, so they could truly be inspired and one day say, “wow, my mommy did it so I know I can do it too”. Find a support system, get some accountability and a coach who is where you want to be. Lean on them when times get challenging because they will help you keep going and keep your focus on the reason you want to get started. Get clear on what you want, and then go after it.
MW What are your top five social media platforms?
CS I would say I have 4. While I’m on several platforms, I only focus on a few at a time. I would say my top four are: Twitter, Periscope, Instagram and Facebook. I’m at @momsncharge everywhere on SM.
MW Why did you create the Whose Shoes inspirational calendar and planner?
CS My sister and I realized that women who read are book wanted more. We realized they needed more and that they were ready to take the next step. One of the things we saw even with the women we spoke with and with ourselves is that accountability is key. When you can clearly write your vision, then create action steps to make that vision a reality, your confidence levels skyrocket. Your belief in yourself increases which is the biggest thing you need to achieve any goal. We also realized that many people didn’t focus on their successes along the journey to their ultimate success. So we wanted to create a space for people to record that. Personally for me, it was so rewarding to flip back month after month in Dec 2015 and look at everything I accomplished. Even though I didn’t cross everything off my list, being able to see everything that I DID cross off, really made me happy
MW Who inspires you the most in your life?
CS Oh this is a tough one. But honestly, I would have to say my husband and my children. My husband pushes me to work to become a better person every day. He is so unbelievably selfless, compassionate and understanding. He pushes me to be a better person, and always encourages me especially if he sees the smallest bit of doubt creeping up.
