Pinterest and Instagram are very different contrary to popular belief. Pinterest and Instagram are both used for photo sharing social networking sites where you can upload photos for family, friends, and businesses to see. My favorite social media playground is Pinterest.
Instagram is more about sharing your own photos, but Pinterest is more about uploading and curating photos you have found on the internet. You can mix and match with different descriptions, tutorials, infographics, texts, comments on your pins to create conversation and engagement on Pinterest.
Pinterest, every pin is a link to the source of the image, usually on a external site, Pinterest relies heavily on SEO and key words. Pinterest users are mostly women, using Pinterest as a virtual scrapbooking tool. The users of Pinterest are a little older than the ones on Instagram. The core demographic is between the ages of 18-34. However, Pinterest has opened it’s doors to invite more male users to Pinterest. This is very exciting to have a more male demographic to interact and grow the social media platform. I have received quite a few new male followers and collaborations on Pinterest. However, Instagram only has a place you can direct people to a link and that is in the bio.
Instagram allows users to take pictures and videos from a mobile device, apply filters, and a caption and than share the image on social media.
Instagram is more popular with the younger crowd. Pinterest is best for curating images, and Instagram for targeting a younger audience. Pinterest is a great place for storytelling through using themed boards.
Pinterest gives you the opportunity to display your business, service, product, and personality on a visual platform by creating your own story and byline with fabulous pins and creative boards. Pinterest allows you to check out your number of impressions, unique page views, and so much more with free Pinterest Analytics once you convert your personal Pinterest account to a business account. Pinterest Analytics is a wonderful tool to connect both your blog and Pinterest page. You can actually figure out what pin is the most popular and create a blog post surrounding that epic pin!
